Crane Flies
Crane fly Adult crane flies emerge from the soil of lawns and other grass
areas from late August to mid September. The females mate and lay eggs in the grass within 24 hours after emerging. These eggs hatch into small, gray-brown, worm
like larvae. The larvae feed on the root crowns of the grass during the fall. As the weather warms in the spring, they continue to feed. Damage by their feeding may become especially noticeable from February to May.
Using Sevin® SL, applied between February 1st and May 15th, can control control turf Crane flies. Preventive fall applications between October 1st and October 31st have
been successful also. Sevin® SL should be applied at the rates recommended on the manufactures label. |
